Gordon Golfs for Muscular Dystrophy
CENTRE, AL (August 4, 1999) - NASCAR Slim Jim Series driver Tina Gordon and sponsors Robert South and Ken and Debbie Williams of Inland Buildings, finished third yesterday in Micheal Waltrips fourth annual celebrity golf tournament. The tournament, which raises money for the Muscular Dystrophy Association and other local charities, was held in Waltrips hometown, Owensboro, Kentucky.
Waltrip, who drives the No. 7 Philips Chevrolet, participated along with a number of other NASCAR drivers and other professional athletes. Other drivers included Waltrips brother Darrell, as well as Sterling Marlin, David Green, Casey Atwood, Jeff Green, Mark Green, Jeremy Mayfield and Dale Earnhardt, Jr.
The tournament was played at Summit Country Club and was followed by a dinner, autograph session and silent auction and raised an estimated $50,000 - $60,000 for its charities.
Tina Gordon has become a fan favorite since hitting the NASCAR scene this season. Already among the most popular autographs on the circuit, Gordons fan base seems to grow right along with her success at the track. Gordon is presently 21st in points in the NASCAR Slim Jims Series despite having only run 19 races on asphalt. Tina has sustained a steady climb up in the points standings and has finished in the top 20 in each of her last few races.
Gordons car is sponsored by Inland Buildings, of Cullman, AL. Inland specializes in the construction of custom-engineered, high quality metal buildings and has been in business for more than a quarter-century.
Besides placing third overall in the tournament, Gordon also won the Closest to the Line award. Gordon, South and the Williams donated all their winnings back to the golf tournament.
I would like to thank Robert South, Debbie and Ken Williams at Inland Buildings who were my partners in the Micheal Waltrip Golf Tournament August 3rd at Owensboro. We finished 3rd in the tournament out of 32 teams and we had a great time. Inland sponsored this event for our team and over $50,000 was raised for the charities.
Gary played in the event with the team of Mike Koger, Jason Koger and Bill Rogers with Nancy South and Seth Gordon giving them moral support but our Inland Team spanked the Consolidated Mechanical team as they could only muster a 6th place finish.
